In honour of Black History Month, Djami Diallo of the Caribbean and African Association of UBC cordially invited Addena Sumter-Freitagto attend Chocolate Month: A Celebration of African and Caribbean Voices through Film, Art and Literature. The aim was to bring continued awareness of our historical past by exploring issues that affect our community and to celebrate the various media through which we express our culture. On Edge Reading Series World Poetry Reading Series partnered with Women and Film BC for the 3rd Annual Women in Film Festival BC Readings by Addena Sumter-Freitag, Bong Ja Ahn, Jacqueline Maire, Mariko Kage, Lucia Gorea Travelling Pan African Film & Arts Festival Bowen Island, BC, Canada U. Ebony, hosted a day of films sponsored by: The Pan African Film and Arts Festival Special Event: Book Reading and Signing of Stay Black & Die by Addena Sumter-Freitag International Women’s Day Concert Special guests: Joy Goghill and Jeni Legon |
August 2008 Professor C. Brooks has added Stay Black and Die to the Women's Studies curriculuum at UBC. UBC July 2008 Dr. Suzanne James: Department of English at University of British Columbia has added Stay Black and Die to her curriculum reading list, writing: "I am really excited by your work, and have put "Stay Black & Die" on the reading list for my second year Canadian lit course this fall. Vanier College English Professor Simon McAslan of Vanier College in Montreal is putting Stay Black and Die on his (winter) English Curriculum. Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design Rita Wong, Professor of Critical and Cultural Studies at the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design in Vancouver, BC, Canada (ECIAD) has currently added my book “Stay Black and Die” to her English Composition class reading list.
